About Jen

My images express the view that we are all family, interdependent, interconnected, and worthy of respect--from universe to rock to plant to animal and human. As humans, we have a responsibility to use our unique talents, to live sustainably and to bring out the best in the world and those around us.  This web site presents some of the artwork I've made since I was a child.

My artistic subject matter has three themes: humanity, nature, and mythology. Although a majority of my series are in oil on canvas or panels, I also paint and draw with acrylic ink, watercolor, pastels, Art Markers, pencils, as well as doing block-printing, and book-making.  I enjoy studying the methods used by artists and artisans of the past, but also making use of the technology of today as exemplified by my most recent series of images in which the computer is used as a tool to manipulate my original work. I use whatever medium or techniques are necessary to express the specific concepts on which I'm working. My uniquely personal style transcends the media I employ. I find satisfaction in doing the most I can, while encouraging others to make the most of their own talents.  I am thankful for all my wonderful friends and mentors and hope that I am as inspirational to others as they have been to me.

My life and art are complementary.  I've spent my life working with people, nature, and studying the mythology and esoteric wisdom of many cultures.  Starting a family has also been inspirational for my artistic life.

I find that making art, teaching, and raising children have much in common.  We do the best we can to create an environment where the concepts, students, and children thrive.  We create a context where authenticity, beauty, meaning, depth, and individuality are acknowledged, respected, and expressed.  Each of us can help others and the world while utilizing our own talents.  Everything comes full circle.
